About FCR — Football Club Ratings

FCR (Football Club Ratings) is a historical football ratings provider powered by the LunaRodas algorithm. FCR publishes annual global historical indices that classify football clubs based on their long-term competitive legacy, using verified historical competition data available since 1872.

Rather than measuring short-term performance or current form, FCR is designed to preserve and contextualise football history through stable, methodologically consistent index cuts.

The FCR Historical Index

The FCR Historical Index is published annually and represents a structured historical cut of global club football. Each edition reflects the best available verified data at the time of publication and provides a comparative framework for evaluating clubs across eras, regions, and competitive environments.

Indices are published separately for men's and women's football, with historical coverage dating back to 1872 and 1969 respectively.

The LunaRodas Algorithm

At the core of FCR is the proprietary LunaRodas algorithm, a historical performance rating model designed to synthesise long-term competitive outcomes across thousands of football competitions.

The algorithm applies consistent weighting rules to both recent and historical performance, ensuring that sustained competitive legacy is prioritised over short-term fluctuations, while maintaining continuity across index editions.

Historical Coverage and Scope

The FCR database currently includes:

FCR continues to expand its historical coverage as new verified records, tournaments, and archival links are incorporated into the index framework.

What FCR Is — and Is Not

FCR is not a predictive model and should not be interpreted as an indicator of match outcomes or short-term team strength. Index positions do not imply that one club would defeat another in a specific fixture.

Instead, FCR provides a historical classification that reflects cumulative competitive participation and achievement over time. It is a reference framework designed for historical analysis, comparison, and research.

Index Revisions and Publication

FCR indices are published annually. Historical index cuts may be revised in future editions as additional verified records become available or as structural coverage expands.

Third-party reproductions of index positions may become outdated as new editions are released.
